I’m excited to be headed back to Quebec this month for a presentation with my friend, cousin, and collaborator, Valérie Bilodeau, about our shared family ties and creative work.

On Sunday, September 13, we’ll be at the Domaine de Pointe-de-Saint-Vallier historical site for an afternoon of stories, songs, memories and dreams. The location is of special importance to me because Saint-Vallier was the home village of Marie-Josephte Corriveau, aka La Corriveau, a distant relative who I wrote about in my play, Les filles du QUOI? Marie-Josephte’s body was displayed in her village after her execution by the British military, shortly after the fall of Quebec. The folk legend that grew up around her came to symbolize, for, me so much of how we mythologize what we can’t stand to remember and how those myths can be like cages.

Val will read from her book, Recits d’une Culottée, and I’ll share from Piecework / Travail à la pièce. We’ll contemplate the ways in which our creative universes intertwine, and our recent work together on a new play about our shared history. I am looking forward to walking along the river in this special spot and trying to bridge the distance between memory and truth with friends. You can find more information on their website.
