I hope the francophiles among you will forgive that I have fallen a bit behind in my posts on Franco-American topics. The fundraising campaign to support the DVD production of Piecework: When We Were French is now in its final days. I have been busy shoring up the final bits of support to help us reach our overall fundraising goal and, happily, thanking donors who have stepped forward to contribute to the project.
Thanks to a very generous contribution by the Alliance Française of the Lake Champlain Region, we are now less than $500 away from our ultimate goal. I’ve written previously about the Alliance and their work, as well as their support for my 2010 Vermont tour of Piecework. Their support of the show continues this month: They will sponsor four performances of Piecework: When We Were French at Lost Nation Theater in Montpelier, Vermont, March 28, 29, and 30. The fact that they have also extended their support of the show to include the DVD production is a demonstration of their educational mission and their interest in cultivating the French roots of the Lake Champlain region.
There is still time for you, too, to demonstrate your support for the preservation of our French heritage. With just a week to go, we are approaching our fundraising goal, and your donation could be the one that takes us over the top! In addition, every penny raised beyond our goal will also go toward the DVD’s production. Design, duplication, packaging, distribution, and outreach are all costs that were left out of our original fundraising appeal. If we exceed our goal, we may even be able to add French subtitles to make the show accessible to francophone audiences. But only your generosity will make that possible. So if you haven’t given yet, please visit the fundraising page today and give whatever you can!
Remember, too, that tickets are on sale now for the upcoming performances at Lost Nation Theater, including the live taping of the DVD. There will also be a special, opening night reception on Thursday, March 28, hosted by the Alliance Française. Come out and celebrate Piecework‘s return — and maybe sign up for a class to brush up on your French, too!
